Each of the aspects of this piece are being used to convey a story. Ganesha is one of the most popular deities from the Indian pantheon and has been the patron deity of traditionalists and revolutionaries as well as being found in both Vedic traditions and Tantric followers. From my studies, no matter what path you are following, Ganesha serves as a strong grounding energy that keeps us anchored in Truth and gives us to ability to raise our consciousness up the spine and achieve Union with the Divine.
The opening or tip of Ganesha's trunk, in this painting, points to his left, towards the heart. This is representative of being the Ganesha of the householder, showing that the spiritual life is not just for the ascetics in the Himalayas or monks living in temples but also for those living in homes, in cities and those raising families.
In this painting, Ganesha is placed in front of the Ajna Chakra or the "third eye". This was done to show that while Ganesha is the Ruler of the Mūlādhāra at the base of, or beginning, of the spine he is also the guardian and the bridge for the coiled energy at the base of the spine to rise up the spine in order to open the eye or gate at the Ajna Chakra to unite with the Sahasrara or crown Chakra at the top of the head. In the words of Christ, AKA Krishna, "If thine eye be single then thy whole body shall be filled with light." The wise men of the East are the Gurus of Christ. Christ is the Guru of the West.
Ganesha is a lover of life and all the experiences life has to offer us. Ganesha loves delicious food and spending time with family. When we are experiencing the beauty of life and the enjoyment of family, we are experiencing the beginning of the understanding of Ganesha.
On the edge of the frame of this painting is Sanskrit text from the Maha Ganapati Mantra. On the left Reads “Arrive, Oh Lord of All Creation, Take your seat In this Abode.”
